Nintendo Wii to launch Facebook the videogame

For those who can’t get enough of a Facebook fix through their computer or IPhone, rest easy, help is on the way.   The makers of the Nintendo Wii,  in conjunction with the creators of Facebook,  announced plans today to release “Facebook:  The video game” in early fall of this year.   The game will  re-create the experience of surfing the Facebook website, while allowing players to add and make “virtual” friends during the course of game-play, in addition to having the option of taking hundreds of mundane personality questionnaires.   “This will be the most realistic Facebook experience a person can have next to the real thing,” says game creator Toshi Kurosawi.  “The things we’ve been able to incorporate into this game will amaze people.”

While you will not be able to add friends from your real life like in the real Facebook,  the “virtual” friends you do add will mirror and exhibit the kinds of actions one might find through their real Facebook friends.   “During the course of play, a player might get repeated friend requests from some creepy guy they haven’t seen since high school, the bully that always picked on them, or the 8th grade girlfriend they dumped for no reason.   Or someone you don’t even know, who you added as a friend only because you’re playing Mafia Wars, might start sending you messages or making dirty comments on your status.   Some players will even end up with virtual stalkers and have to find ways to avoid perpetuating contact with them. It’s all very exciting,” says game co-creator Tony Farrell.

Nintendo is anticipating brisk sales for the game, as Facebook  devotees number in the 10s of millions.
