Randy Johnson credits his success to his mullet

Randy Johnson is fast approaching 300 career wins, but the five time Cy Young winner and future Hall of Fame pitcher says he has only one thing to thank for all the accomplishments he has achieved in his career.  And it’s not what you might think.  “It’s all mullet,” said the lanky, hard-throwing left-hander.  “It’s not me, it’s not any of my managers or pitching coaches.  I’m not motivated by my family or money.  I do it all for the mullet,” Johnson says of the mullet he affectionately calls “Charlie.”

As Johnson nears the 300 win milestone, many former teammates and opponents agreed with him.  Former teammate Curt Shilling calls Johnson’s mullet an “amazing athlete.”  Manager Joe Torre says, “Randy draws all his strength, talent and inspiration from that hair.  I didn’t even try to coach him.”  Finally, Phillies outfielder John Kruk says of their infamous encounter at The All-Star game years ago, where Johnson threw dangerous fastballs a little too close for Kruk’s comfort, “The mullet told him to do it.  His mullet had a vast disdain for my mullet.  He was trying to knock my mullet off of my head.”

Reporters have been swarming the giant southpaw for interviews over the last few weeks, but we here at Moldy Cheese have requested an interview with the famous mullet instead.  “Charlie doesn’t want to do any interviews.” said Johnson, “Any questions for him have to go through me.”

Whatever the case, Randy Johnson will become the 25th player to win 300 games, but he’ll be the first to do so with a mullet named Charlie.
