Sidney Crosby named Hockey God

Sidney Crosby was the youngest player in NHL history to win the Art Ross Trophy, was the youngest player to be named a full team captain, was the youngest player in NHL history to record 100 points in a season, and just last week became the youngest captain in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup. Well Sidney Crosby can add something else to that resume — – he just became the youngest player ever to officially be named a Hockey God.

“We are proud to welcome Sidney Crosby into our brethren,” said God of All Things Hockey Wayne Gretzky.  “Heretofore  Sidney Crosby will be known as God of Wrist Shots.”

It is unprecedented for a player of Crosby’s age to be named a  hockey deity.  The Church of Hockey  has only welcomed  a handful of players into the fold, but usually only long into that player’s career or after they have retired.  However, with Crosby rapidly becoming one of the greatest players to ever play the game and having already hoisted the Stanley Cup, the church could seemingly not overlook him any longer.

“This is a tremendous honor for Sidney  and I know he will take the responsibilities that come with being a hockey god seriously,” said God of the Breakaway Mario Lemieux.

Some hockey religious purists,  and many inside the Detroit Red Wings locker room, questioned  whether naming Crosby a god at this young age was a good idea.  “ I can tell you right now I will never ever get down on my knees and pray to Sidney Crosby,” said Red Wing Kris Draper.  However, Crosby clearly had the support of the rest of the hockey gods. “Crosby has been a figurative hockey god since before he was a teenager. It was only a matter of time until he literally became one,” said God of Slap Shots Gordie Howe.

Crosby joins such other hockey gods as Brett Hull,  Patrick Roy,  Phil Esposito and Marcel Dionne.    Mark Messier was demoted after Crosby’s promotion.
