Stanley Cup victory causes crime spree across Pittsburgh

The majority of the people who live in the city of Pittsburgh stayed up late to celebrate the Penguins stunning victory last night in the Stanley Cup Finals, but hundreds of the late-night revelers paid a steep price for it by having their homes and businesses robbed, Pittsburgh police said this morning.  Due to excessive drinking and partying all night, many Penguin fans left their homes and businesses unsecured and unoccupied, giving burglars easy access and opportunity to get away with their crimes. “We won the Stanley Cup!  Pittsburgh rules!,” said Mike Simons, 33, after learning his home was robbed of most of his possessions.  Carly White, 44, of Monroeville, PA, had partied with friends quite hard during the game and ended up passed out on her front lawn with her apartment keys in her hand.  She awoke to find that her apartment had been ransacked.  “At least they didn’t take my Malkin jersey off my back!  Stanley Cup Champs!!  Wooooooooo!!,” said Ms. White.  Barry Schneider, 50, who runs ‘Barry’s Bagels’ in the  Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh,  had left a sign on his storefront yesterday saying “CLOSED FOR STANLEY CUP GAME.”   He learned this morning that his store had been broken into and vandalized.  “They broke all my windows like Pittsburgh broke Osgood and the Red Wings!  Lets do it again next year Penguins!,” Mr. Schneider proclaimed.

Pittsburgh Police have no leads on suspects for these or the hundreds of other crimes committed last night.  “We have to get the city ready for the victory parade,” police spokesman Erik Potter said.  “We’ll worry about this stuff after that.”
